A food processor is sized in cups, and the cup number is not marketing — it is the single most consequential choice you make. A 14-cup bowl chops a full head of cabbage or a double batch of dough in one go. A 3-cup mini chops one onion and a handful of herbs, and washing a 14-cup bowl to do that is a genuine chore that ends with the machine living in a cupboard. Most kitchens want a mid-to-large bowl (11–14 cups) as the main machine, and a lot of two-person households are honestly better served by a 7–8 cup unit that they will actually leave on the counter and reach for.
The trap is buying big “to be safe”. Capacity you do not use is capacity you have to store and wash. Size the bowl to your normal week, not to the one Thanksgiving where you wished it were bigger.
Power matters, but only past a threshold
Wattage is the number brands shout loudest, and it matters least — up to a point. For chopping, slicing and shredding, almost any modern processor has enough motor. What actually goes wrong, and the parts count

A processor that seals properly lets you puree a soup base without liquid weeping out of the bottom; one that does not will annoy you every week for years. And every extra disc, every dicing kit, every nested small bowl is one more thing to rinse, dry and find drawer space for. Why a plain Cuisinart beats a machine that costs ten times more
Because the question a ranking answers is not “which of these is the finest machine”.
